STEM Challenge #1

Build a Paper Bridge

Welcome to Week 1 of Affreej STEM Challenge Series!

Let’s kick things off with a classic test of creativity, physics, and design thinking. Can you build the strongest bridge using nothing but paper and tape?

🧠 Objective

Design and construct a paper bridge that can support as many coins or small weights as possible — without collapsing!

🔍 Get Inspired:

Can a flat sheet hold weight? Or does folding help? Try different shapes—arches, triangles, or rolls!

🧰 You’ll Need

  • A4 paper (you can use up to 5 sheets)
  • Clear tape or masking tape
  • Two books (to create a gap for the bridge)
  • Coins or small weights (to test strength)

📏 Challenge Rules

  1. Use only paper and tape to build your bridge.
  2. Place books roughly 20 cm apart to support the ends of your bridge.
  3. Gradually place coins on the bridge and record how many it holds before it collapses.
  4. Take photos or videos of your process and result
